Today I saw a guy ride a unicycle to get where he needed to go.

I’m writing from my cozy loft in the flat of Rune and Marit, who are graciously housing me for this weekend. They have been very kind and accommodating- last night we went out to the Asian restaurant across the street from their place.

Today Marit showed me around the Opera house and Karl Johanns Gate, and Rune took me to see Harry Potter (there were subtitles på Norsk), then we had some Kebabs. It was nuts- there were 4 other Kebab shops on the same block, and all I could think of was the Flight of the Concord’s song. Oh, and I also saw some people shooting up in the park. There are apparently a lot of drug addicts around. Kult.

Tonight the family of Rune’s younger brother are also coming to stay; he has a 12-year-old son and a daughter my age, which should be interesting. Tomorrow I think we will go see Vigeland’s park, and maybe I will shop for a while in one of the manymanymany shopping centers they have here.

Camping Trip

Yesterday all the older kids packed up and took a nice long (and excruciating) 3 hour hike to a lovely beach near the woods. We pitched tents, which took forever because the wind was fighting against us at every moment. It was cold, but everyone still went swimming. There weren’t any fish, but there were quite a lot of jelly fish (not the stinging kind). We enjoyed pølse and hamburgers cooked over the fire, then played games and sang songs on the beach. Since it was so lovely outside and the tents were rather cramped, lots of people took to the beach and slept under the star. There was only one visible, because it stayed pretty light throughout the whole night. In the morning we cleaned up and were mercifully driven back in the school’s beat-up van. Now every one is tired, bitten, sunburnt and happy.

Tonight we are having a party while the little kids take their turn at camping. Much fun will surely ensue.

I am in Norway? Yes, yes I am. My flight from the STP to Reykjavik, Iceland, was rather enjoyable. IcelandAir has touch screens in the back of every seat, so I was able to entertain myself with Australia, The Simpsons, and How I Met Your Mother. They also had music to listen to, so as we were landing in the foggy morning mist, I listened to Bjork and Sigur Ros and felt very Icelandic. I didn’t sleep at all, which was a very big mistake.

On the flight from Reydjavik to Oslo, I was neighbors to two vietnamese men in full snow suits. That fact should speak for itself. However, I was able to see some amazing clouds and tops of mountains and huge lakes and little mountain towns. After landing, I was able to find my group with only a little baggage hassle and aimless wandering.

We took a long bus ride and arrived in Råde, which is a beautiful country town with fields and cows and stuff. The school is rather charming, with two main buildings (the dorms and the school), gorgeous paths through unpspoiled nature, ponds and sports fields. There is a field adjacent to the fotballbannen (soccer field) where cows romp around and graze.
